Night Burn

from Palettes by Mont Chris Hubbard

/

about

This piece is one of my favorites. At first I couldn't get around the horror of the image, but I started to think of the man as just a piece of nature — something beautiful — and the fire, in destroying it, is celebrating its life. That interpretation proved to be quite evocative. (In a more literal sense, I think that the bass figure, a rising three-note arpeggio, represents the flames licking upwards. I don't remember if that was a conscious decision.)
